Two Weight Rooms, Cardio Equipment, Multipurpose Room, Fitness Classes, Dance Classes, Yoga & Tai Chi Clubs, Tanning, Completely Air Conditioned & Locker Rooms with Showers.

All fitness and yoga club classes are included with center membership. A social membership fee as well as instructor fee is required for dance and tai chi classes.
Fit Happens: Begins Monday, February 4th at 5PM. Package includes: Baseline fitness test including measurements and weight. A fitness and progress reporting notebook. Weekly weight loss prizes. Prizes for reaching monthly goals. At the end of 12 weeks, your final progress measurements and weight. Cash Grand Prizes for most weight lost, and the most % of weight loss, as well as 2nd place prizes. Each Monday you can weigh in anytime during office hours. A weekly weigh-in fee of $2.00 will be charged. $1.00 will go to the winner that week, and the other $1.00 will go toward the grand prizes at the end of 12 weeks.

Eight Week Schedule: Class Descriptions in Alphabetic Order:Beach Body Fitness: Bring It! High energy mixed class of cardio & strength! Mondays 5:30; Cardio Kickboxing & Strength Training: A great total fitness class that builds strength, flexibility & endurance. Punch, kick, and stretch your way to a healthy, toned body. Thursdays 5:30 ; Enhanced Fitness: Designed for 55 and over. This evidence based program provides cardio, strength training, balance, and flexibility training. Participants must be able to walk back and forth across the fitness room. M, W, F 9:30 AM; MSROM: Muscular Strength Range of Motion through Silver Sneakers. Senior class designed so participants can do the entire class seated if necessary. Exercises to enhance strength, endurance, and flexibility. Approx. 60 minutes. The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is an innovative health, exercise and wellness program helping older adults live healthy, active lifestyles. Get fit, have fun, make friends!
MSROM: Muscular Strength Range of Motion through Silver Sneakers. Senior class designed so participants can do the entire class seated if necessary. Exercises to enhance strength, endurance, and flexibility. Approx. 60 minutes.
Yogastretch, a Silver Sneakers Program is a group exercise class designed for those who have expressed desire for more flexibility, balance, muscular endurance and mind-body training. Yogastretch is appropriate for "every body". All of the poses and breathing exercises may be performed either seated or standing.
Tumbling Class: Six Week Introductory Session: Begins week of September 5th. Today's children are considered the most inactive generation in history, let's change that statistic! In this program kids focus on strength training, cardiovascular exercise, flexibility, and good nutrition. Kids will participate in games, stretching, conditioning, and set personal goals.
A Matter of Balance Master Trainer: MOB is designed to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults who manifest this concern. The program was developed and formally evaluated by the Roybal Center of Enhancement of Late-Life Function at Boston University with a grant from the National Institute on Aging. MOB received the Archstone Foundaton Award for Excellence in Program Innovation in 2006. Community Fitness was chosen to be the Master Trainer Site for Piscataquis County and awarded a start up grant from Healthy Maine Partnerships to provide materials and promotion for Coach Training throughout the County. Sign up now for Matter of Balance classes to be held in April/May 2011. Fee is $15.00 which covers costs of materials.
Introducing COMFIT TRAINERS At Community Fitness. COMFIT TRAINERS is a Personal Training Team Service provided by Friends of Community Fitness. We have four trainers: Andy Cookson, Wendy McKenney, John Conner, and Gayle Worden. Each uniquely qualified to train and coach you to an enhanced fitness level. Our trainers work as a team, keeping your training sessions fresh and exciting. Our specialties include but are not limited to: power lifting, sport specific coaching, cross training, boxing, yoga and meditation, carving lean muscle, running…….
Weight Room Circuit: A class held in the weight room. Move from exercise station to station, keeping your pulse elevated and your muscles pumping. Enhances strength, endurance & burns calories. A Certified Personal Trainer is your instructor.
Tai Chi, Yang style Tai Chi forms, drills & martial applications. This soft, flowing art increases strength, flexibility, balance, & creates an overall sense of well being for its practitioners. What could be better, a slow, soft yogic dance that strengthens the body and balances the emotions as it centers the spirit. First we will learn the Eight Pieces of Brocade, a 2,000 year old series of meridian stretches. This Chi-Kung set forms the foundation for all Chinese body work. Next we will learn the 7 minute Yang Family Tai-Chi form. Beginners welcome. Full Members $28.00/monthly. Social Members $38.00/monthly.Teacher: Wayne Ripley has decades of experience and teaches all over central and southern Maine.
Brunch Socials: These will be held the first Thursday of each month at 11 AM. This is a potluck, open to the public. We’ll have guest speakers and activities each month.

Place: Starts at the recreational fields in Guilford
Time: Riverfest 5K 8:45 AM Sharp – Registration begins at 8:15
Walkathon (Riverwalk) & Kid’s Fun Run (1/4 mile) start at the entrance of the Guilford Memorial Riverwalk on Rt. 15 at 8 AM, registration begins at 7:30. The first 36 children participating in the Fun Run will receive a complimentary t-shirt and ribbon!

Walking Routes: Walking is a gentle, low-impact exercise that can increase your level of fitness and health. Walking is a safe and simple exercise that doesn’t require any practice. Participating in a regular walking routine can lower your blood pressure, improve your
mood, and can help you stay strong and fit. Below is a list of walking trails that surround Friends of Community Fitness. Each trail varies in distance, time and steps so that you can choose the trail that works best for you and your time crunch. Each trail starts and ends at the Friends of Community Fitness main parking lot. On the back of this sheet there is a detailed map that outlines each route in color. Enjoy walking your way towards a healthier you!
2011 Riverfest 5K Results
Our community is blessed with a fitness and community center, unique in its origins and vital to the citizens who participate in its varied programs. Friends of Community Fitness, established in 2003 as a non-profit 501©3 offers 24/7 access (over 18) with a computerized magnetic card security lock which tracks our members use of the facility. Our success is possible because of a combination of collaborations between business, non-profits and caring individuals who have volunteered their time and money for a project they feel is beneficial to the health and well being of our community. We receive grants and donations from many individuals, scholarship funds from the Piscataquis Public Health Council, Healthy Maine Partnerships, support from Hardwood Products, Puritan Medical Products, LLC, and Key Bank.
Open Gym - Whenever there is not a class or activity scheduled. Please consult the schedule or with our staff before organizing a game. We will be offering basketball and volleyball nights and afternoons, some after school activities, and a weekly senior luncheons in the near future.
