  • A Matter of Balance Master Trainer: MOB is designed to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults who manifest this concern. The program was developed and formally evaluated by the Roybal Center of Enhancement of Late-Life Function at Boston University with a grant from the National Institute on Aging. MOB received the Archstone Foundaton Award for Excellence in Program Innovation in 2006. Community Fitness was chosen to be the Master Trainer Site for Piscataquis County and awarded a start up grant from Healthy Maine Partnerships to provide materials and promotion for Coach Training throughout the County. Sign up now for Matter of Balance classes to be held in April/May 2011. Fee is $15.00 which covers costs of materials.

  • Our community is blessed with a fitness and community center, unique in its origins and vital to the citizens who participate in its varied programs. Friends of Community Fitness, established in 2003 as a non-profit 501©3 offers 24/7 access (over 18) with a computerized magnetic card security lock which tracks our members use of the facility. Our success is possible because of a combination of collaborations between business, non-profits and caring individuals who have volunteered their time and money for a project they feel is beneficial to the health and well being of our community. We receive grants and donations from many individuals, scholarship funds from the Piscataquis Public Health Council, Healthy Maine Partnerships, support from Hardwood Products, Puritan Medical Products, LLC, and Key Bank.

  • Our Membership Information: AUTOMATIC PAYMENT RATES: These payments will be deducted automatically from your checking or savings account on either the 1st or 15th of the month. If you lock in with this service your rates will never increase as long as your membership remains active.

  • MSROM: Muscular Strength Range of Motion through Silver Sneakers. Senior class designed so participants can do the entire class seated if necessary. Exercises to enhance strength, endurance, and flexibility. Approx. 60 minutes.

  • Open Gym - Whenever there is not a class or activity scheduled. Please consult the schedule or with our staff before organizing a game. We will be offering basketball and volleyball nights and afternoons, some after school activities, and a weekly senior luncheons in the near future.

  • Tai Chi, Yang style Tai Chi forms, drills & martial applications. This soft, flowing art increases strength, flexibility, balance, & creates an overall sense of well being for its practitioners. What could be better, a slow, soft yogic dance that strengthens the body and balances the emotions as it centers the spirit. First we will learn the Eight Pieces of Brocade, a 2,000 year old series of meridian stretches. This Chi-Kung set forms the foundation for all Chinese body work. Next we will learn the 7 minute Yang Family Tai-Chi form. Beginners welcome. Full Members $28.00/monthly. Social Members $38.00/monthly.Teacher: Wayne Ripley has decades of experience and teaches all over central and southern Maine.

  • Tumbling Class: Six Week Introductory Session: Begins week of September 5th. Today's children are considered the most inactive generation in history, let's change that statistic! In this program kids focus on strength training, cardiovascular exercise, flexibility, and good nutrition. Kids will participate in games, stretching, conditioning, and set personal goals.
